The 67th BFI Film Festival will be held from the 4th of October - the 15th of October and One Life will be screened on the 12th as this year's American Express Gala.

Based on a true story that centres around bravery and heroism, it tells the tale of Sir Nicholas 'Nicky' Winton, a London Broker in his prime, who saves 669 children from the Nazis months before the start of World War II.

December 1938, Prague

Sir Nicholas 'Nicky' Winton - Anthony Hopkins - has found families who had fled to escape the rise of the Nazis in Germany and Austria. Looking around, Nicky knows that the children, their parents and all those looking for salvation are grasping onto the scraps of food they have and huddling under the little shelter that is available. The families have been living in these crippling conditions as the only hope is to remain safe from the Nazis' invasion.

But is it their only chance of survival, or can Nicholas Winton provide a glimmer of hope?

Nicky Knows that it is a race against time.

How many children could he and his team save before the borders close?

- 50 Years Later -

1988

Nicky has been living his life haunted by the lives of the children he was unable to save, and has done nothing but blame himself and tormented his every thought with the question...

'Why didn't I do more?'

Little Does Nicky know the fate of those children was not as bleak as his head had him believe.

In a BBC show 'That Life' Winton is surprised as he is introduced to some of the surviving children - now adults.

Could this fade his guilt, will he finally come to terms with the grief that he has carried with him for five decades.

One life is directed by James Hawes who says

"It is a huge honour to have ONE LIFE be a gala presentation. This film pretty much begins and ends in London and says so much about the people of this city, its heart and its history. So it feels right that we have our UK launch at the BFI London Film Festival" and is staring Anthony Hopkins, Helena Bonham Carter, Johnny Flynn, Lena Olin, Romola Garai, Alex Sharp, Marthe Keller, Jonathan Pryce. This true story is produced by See-Saw alongside BBC Film. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, See-Saw Films, said: "We are so excited to be presenting One Life at the 2023 BFI London Film Festival, in See-Saw’s 15th year. Every film we have premiered at the festival has been a special experience and an incredible moment for us and our filmmakers. We are also delighted that this will be our 4th American Express Gala after The King’s Speech, Lion, and The Power Of The Dog."
